Sebastian’s Story
In 2010, Lauren met her heart horse, a spirited Andalusian Appaloosa cross named Sebastian. He truly ignited her passion for all things equine.
Unfortunately, in 2016, Sebastian was diagnosed with Cushing’s Disease. While the classic medication prescribed to manage his cortisol levels proved effective, it also had a profound effect on his personality. To manage Sebastian’s condition, Lauren had to make the difficult decision to isolate Sebastian in a dry lot, monitor his hay intake consistently and strip away everything he loved, including lush green pastures. It broke her heart to see her beloved horse become depressed and unresponsive. Lauren knew she had to do something.
With dietary changes and careful management of his environment, Lauren was able to discontinue Sebastian’s medication, giving him back his personality and enabling him to enjoy his senior years back on green grass in the company of his equine friends. Sadly, in January 2022, at the age of 22, Sebastian suffered a severe colic caused by a strangulating lipoma.
Keeping Sebastian’s legacy alive
Sebastian is the inspiration for Na Lio Equine Nutrition & Wellness, and his memory will live on in the rewarding work that Lauren does to help horses and equine their owners every day.
